I have my first appointment with a rheumatologist soon just wondering what to expect on first appointment ?? Advice appreciated :)
I hope you have a better experience than I did. There are only two in my area like a large portion of my state, one male and one female. I was told not to go to the female and that she is awful. Well, I went to the male and he was awful. He basically said your PCP has done everything that I would do. I haven't seen him since. I didn't think there was a point of seeing him again unfortunately. Good luck.
By the way, I take Lyrica and Cymbalta and Cyclobenzaprine.
Lyrica has helped me the most with pain but I'm currently in a terrible rut with my pain :( I went off of Lyrica because I didn't think it was helping but Cymbalta doesn't help me (but I take it for depression too) so I'm back on Lyrica :( Walking, massage, going to a chiropractor and physical therapy and pool therapy has helped me the most. But, I cannot afford to go to a massage therapist or to a Chiropractor. I also have terrible anxiety so I can't get myself to go to the physical therapy or aqua therapy lately.
I have seen two rheumatologist and they both ask a lot of questions, sent me for like 25 X-rays and blood work. The first one said there is nothing he can do for me after seeing my test results and the second one has given me all kinds of things to do before I go back to him. I was very upset when I left his office because he was so arrogant and rude. Not sure if I will go back to him?? My GP is the absolute best but I thought a new plan of treatment might work and the second rheumatologist had studied Fibro immensely so I thought I'd give it a shot, you know we will try anything to get rid of our pain!!!
@A MyFibroTeam Member I had never heard of anyone taking steroids for Fibro until someone else on this app mentioned it too. No one, Doctor or person with Fibro has ever mentioned it before.
You sound like me. :)
In Liverpool there is a Fibro advice & help course run by physios, dieticians and pain management nurses, ask if there is one available near you!
It was 4 hours per week over 6 weeks with help, support & tips on mild exercise, diet and managing pain. Also have accessed a course of hydrotherapy with a physio which was really good and helpe relax.
Also, heard that Rheumatologist can start a steroid course which GP can prescribe lomger term.
Hope this helps.
