If you look up gabapentin and tooth decay there are several people who use it for fibro who have had breaking or decaying teeth.. This is what has happened to me and I'm only 30!! I had one molar pulled now next Thurs have to have another one pulled and just noticed 2 others that are cracked :(

I am a retired dental hygienist. Fibromytes do a lot of tooth grinding in response to chronic pain. It's called bruxism. It can break teeth and cause nerves to die. A dead tooth requires root canal therapy or it will spread infection into you blood stream. Bruxism breaks down supportive bone and can cause tooth loss. At the very least, the loss of bone will expose the portion of the tooth where the enamel ends and the cementum begins. Cementum is softer than enamel and things like flossing or having your teeth cleaned can be painful.
Root planing does not involve scraping gums or "scraping " anything else. Just to clarify, the root planing procedure smooths the surface of the root and rids it of sticky biofilm that contributes to periodontal disease. I don't see anything in her post that would suggest that she had this procedure.

I've had too many teeth pulled cause I couldn't afford root canals & crowns for each broken tooth. That's why I'm not showing my teeth in my photo, I was too self conscious cause I had 2 broken teeth in the top front. I'm not even 40 and now I have an upper denture. The good thing about it is that I'm not self conscious about my smile anymore.

Shauna, that sounds like you had root plaining done when they scrap your gums like that. My husband had the same thing done and then when you go to the dentist for teeth cleaning the list it as periadontal cleaning and charge you more, or at least that's what mine does. It's for gum disease or gingivitis. I feel for your pain since we have magnified pain more than the normal person does and he was in pain.
