I was taking Cymbalta for delression, pain and anxiety. Also took off Topamax for migraine prevention. Since weather is warmer I was able to come off of them since I feel somewhat better. Now with this anxiety I cannot stop eating But I have noticed my anxiety is to the roof. I take Xanax as needed. Try to keep it to the minimum and Klonopin to sleep instead of Ambien. Are there any alternatives to Cymbalta that will control this anxiety as well as when winter comes I am with no energy at all. I… read more

Members shared diverse experiences with alternatives to Cymbalta for managing anxiety, depression, and fibromyalgia pain, with several finding success through combinations like amitriptyline with Cymbalta, low-dose Paxil, or Zoloft (which multiple members praised for reducing anxiety and crying spells without weight gain). Many emphasized the dangers of stopping Cymbalta abruptly, describing severe withdrawal symptoms including depression and increased anxiety, and recommended working closely with doctors to taper slowly or find the minimum effective dose. A recurring theme was the deeply personal nature of medication response, with members encouraging the original poster to advocate for psychiatric consultation beyond a primary care doctor, consider natural supplements cautiously while monitoring interactions, and prioritize quality of life over minimizing medication when necessary.

I agree that you should not stop your Cymbalta cold turkey....I tried this med and had so many side affects and some could be life threatening. Your depression could be from the withdrawals from Cymbalta...check out the internet...there is a lot of info on it about Cymbalta. I take Lexapro and it works well except when the pain is severe and that is just the Fibro doing its job on my brain and I don't anything will really control it all the time...Best of luck to you and I hope things get better for you...Hugs....Nell

I didn't used to have anxiety until started having other fibro symptoms that lead to my diagnosis. I think it goes hand in hand with it sometimes. Meds for anxiety should never be stopped cold turkey, You're better off doing it gradually. I'm not one for taking meds, but I do take Nortryptolene (excuse the spelling) (it's an anti anxiety/depressant, but in smaller doses works for Fibro) I'm on a very low dose and I take it about an hour before bed time, but it seems to work for me. If Cymbalta was working for you, but you don't want to take so much med, maybe cut down your dosage to the minimum of what works for you.

I take Cymbalta for pain and depression. I'm glad you are better but why did you stop taking it? You don't mention side effects. I take Klonopin for restless leg syndrome and it also controls any anxiety I might have. I don't understand why the Klonopin isn't helping your anxiety. But I see you are taking it only to sleep. Talk to your doc, PERHAPS some combination of Klonopin and Xanax would control your anxiety. I had terrible side effects from Savella, one of which was anxiety, so only buy a small amount to try. I realize every person's chemistry is different so it might work very well for you. Lyrica also worked well for me for a very long time. Again, I question why you stopped taking the meds which made you feel better. By the way, I also take Topamax, fellow migraine sufferer. I understand no one wants to take medication for the rest of their lives, BUT. I am 56. I was diagnosed with fibro at 35. I have tried stopping my meds, all 15 of them, several times, and life just isn't worth living. I have even seriously considered suicide. Whether or not to take meds is a personal decision; but do not let anyone else pressure you into not taking medication that makes you feel better. The idea is to get back to where one can have some sort of an enjoyable life. I have managed that only with meds. I had to find a new doc when mine retired and START ALL OVER AGAIN. My enjoyable life stopped cold. I was back in bed all of the time. Don't give up trying to find a med or combination of meds that will enable you to fight your anxiety and sleep well. You need both to have some joy in your life. Let me know how things go. I care. Best wishes, Brenda

I tried Paxil a long time ago and it worked well with the exception that I didn't care about anything....I had no emotions good or bad! I didn't feel happy or sad, didn't cry and didn't laugh. When I stopped taking it after a few weeks my emotions returned. Never want to feel like that again. I am extremely sensitive to meds so that may have only been a reaction that I would get but becareful.
