Since stress brings on severe fibro symptoms for me, I was wondering of an anti anxiety med like klonopin would be of help. Does anybody have experience with this?
Also, a friend of mine who has diabetic-related peripheral neuropathy gets relief with elavil, or amitryptiline. I don't have a problem with depression but was wondering if this could help with fibro pain. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi there! Klonopin is not really an antidepressant. It is more of an anti-anxiety/seizure med. Cymbalta and Savella are both SNRI antidepressants and more stimulating than klonopin, but are now being prescribed for fibromyalgia. We all react differently so depending if you need more of a sedating feeling or stimulating, you will have to try. Also consider SSRI's like Zoloft, which usually have less side effects than SNRI's in general. Dont be frightened to try though. Worse comes to worse you stop the drug and try another. Talk to your doctor about the main symptoms you want to treat and do your research about side effects. :)
I take klonopin I could not live without it.
Helps me rest and calms nerve endings down at times.
I agree they do help, although like someone stated above they effect everyone differently. Zoloft started giving me worse brain zaps and migraines to where my vision would get blurry so they took me off of it and so far Cymbalta has helped quite a bit, I'm still in pain almost always but not as severe as before.
I take Klonopin and it work wonders for me, not only for pain, but my anxiety as well...It can make you a little loopy...
