What Kind Of Pain Meds Do You Take For Fibro And Have You Gone Off Them And Felt Better?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been taking Opioid pain meds for 6 years now since being diagnosed with Fibro. I have other chronic issues including degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, herniated disc in the cervical and lumbar areas. I want to get off my pain meds and try more natural remedies but every time I try to do this I feel it's impossible without my medications. I only take pain meds. I've tried gabapentin, nortriptalyne for the nerve pain but it didn't help just made me tired and still had pain. I feel… read more

I've read all of the above comments and I have been through it all as well. It's pretty much the same outcome with everything that I have tried. My last resort has been "Medical Marijuana". I've done my research and asked questions of the doctor who recommended that I take a chance on the MM, and I did get some. Results were: it made me sleepy and woozy. AND it onlly about an 1/8 of a 2 inch Granola Bar. Sooo, this wil be good for sleep, but not for pain. I have found that it's the Nabilone strain of MM is the best for Fibro. As of tomorrow, I will be in touch with my Dispensary to see if they carry this. I Will try this! I need start living a normal life. Being as I am, is not what I call living.

Exactly Sherylfarawayskies, I have gotten off of almost all medications, I only take a norco occasionally when nothing else will work. I have a goal to be off of all medications in one year

Yes I believe I am concurring with leolady56. When a person is placed on narcotic like tramadol for pain and an antidepressant it can cause worsening depression and pain. This has been proven in research hence the reason for my own removal of certain meds and decrease in cymbalta. These meds together can actually cause worsening depression and increase in pain perception bc these meds together decrease ones pain tolerance. Opioids are proven in research to be addictive, cause dependency and do not in the long haul change lessen or control pain. They actually worsen it. Another reason to do alternative treatments like massage therapy acupuncture chiropractor tens units etc.. Oils as well.

I was on 5 mg of Nabilone for a few months. It worked great- but two of my doctors had major issues with prescribing "marijuana" Unfortunately I developed a sensitivity to it (as I do to most every med I try) and had to discontinue the Nabilone. It worked. I have just gone back to smoking MM instead.

Ditto that. Alternative treatments natural healing a is in my opinion the best way to go bc drugs lose effect cause need for higher and higher doses and research has confirmed OPIODS in long run makes pain worse. Google The Herald report and open article on OPIODS Make Pain worse . Very interesting!
