I'm a nervous wreck about the Hearing. I have Fibro, psoriatic arthritis, CFS, Migraines, and chronic sinus problems. I haven't been able to work for over 3 years. I've waited so long to FINALLY sit down face to face with a human being. I'm scared I'll break down and not be able to say everything I want to say! I forget things so easily and my mind is always spinning. Does anyone have suggestions? I do have a great lawyer, completed form from my Dr. Saying I can't work. Shows my SS statement… read more

Members rallied around someone preparing for their disability hearing, offering both practical advice and emotional support for navigating the nerve-wracking process. Several members shared strategies including writing down key points to stay focused during questioning, documenting how daily activities and relationships are affected by their conditions, dressing comfortably, being honest about pain levels, and trusting their lawyer to guide the conversation. The original poster later celebrated being approved for disability after a three-year wait, expressing gratitude for the community's guidance while working through confusion about payment calculations and effective dates.

Carolyn, I sat down and wrote a letter "To Whom it May Conern", detailing every aspect of my disability and how it affects my life. Everything that I could no longer do and how it made me feel. That every stress related situation, whether physical or emotional, put me into a fibro flair that literally set me in the corner of my couch for day's to weeks. I have several other physical problems that I included, of course, and I sent this letter to my attorney who gave it to the judge, who approved my car very shortly thereafter, without a hearing.

Wear flats no heels. Just tell the truth make them feel your pain. It took me a year and a half to get mine and I know that was a blessing because it usually takes years. The judge said he believed me. Tell them how your pain keeps you for doing thing. How it affects your family. How it affects your love life if it does. Just tell the truth!! Say a prayer before you go in it can't hurt!!

Write down the points that you want to make at the meeting. As you talk about each one then cross them off your list. I haven't been in a hearing so not sure how hey go but if it seems like they aren't going to let you talk tell them you have things you want to say. Good luck.

Just be you. I live in Canada and went through what you are going through. Your lawyer will handle most of the questions but some may be directed to you. Just tell it like I is, my friend. You are strong and you will do well. If you have questions, write them down so that you don't forget. That's what I do, now. It makes my life so much easier and is a great help to the dr, too.
I wish you good luck and keep us posted, k?

Love, peace, and gentle hugs,

Catherine
