Has anyone started a support group and if so how did you go about getting it started? What did you do at these groups and how do you keep your group from becoming a group of misery? I would like to start one in my area

I had a Fibro group..were ran out of our local hospital..they had board rooms we could use.I would bring the latest info about Fibro..and share it.I would ask everyone if they had tips that could help us....like cooking dinner in the morning or afternoon..because by night time was too sore and tired. Many people have learned many tricks to get through the day..even just writing a note to take to the store ..because we always forget..what we went for if we are exhausted already..It is important though to share some of the frustration of having Fibro because no-one else really understands it...but when they do share about their frustrations..ask others if they have found solutions in those areas.Like I found having your own room or space to go rest in and allowed just to relieve stress..or sleep listen to music..but your OWN space..so you can just be you..and not have to put a smile on...when forced to be ( like on stage covering it all up like a actress) but instead just allowing yourself to heal and be left alone in your room..and do whatever you need to to do .then come back out after rested...I found this to be very beneficial..!!..Just have to watch the time.throughout the meeting and kinda stick with a program..Good Luck..gentle hugs )

Hi Claudia. I enjoyed your post with tips. I agree that these can be very helpful during flares and also practiced as your routine daily. I have found doing chores ahead of time and early in the day make it easier to manage and resting in the afternoon can help calm you for sleep in the evening. This site has awesome folks who have brought wonderful working ideas . Thanks everyone for amazing support. Blessings

I have my own room to go to to lay down and take long naps during the day. Not all days do I get one but if I skip a couple days it catches up to me. Stress and weather. My dad passed a year ago and my mom came to live with us which was a blessing but she is going blind so it brings more on me. She doesn't understand the kind of rest I need. I wish I knew of a fibro group because I sure would go. Nobody understands it only if you live it.

ok a support group we shall have to look into getting one started I know we can probably use our church for meeting place will have to ask council for permission but pretty certain they will give the ok. Then move forward from there and think about how to run it like how often to meet; what to discuss; how to keep it from becoming a whoa is me place. I think having a time for everyone to share how their week went and brainstorming how to make life livable etc.... A lot like this site what do you think
