I have been taking 5-HTP for years at bedtime. I just switched to Cymbalta from Prozac and Welbutron, after 35yrs plus. It's available at one -stop shop stores or a health food store. Even online of course!

Yes I use to take SSRI UPtake depressant and it's actually the opposite. I had no serotonin and the serotonin uptake drug had nothing to uptake and it was defeating the purpose. Now I'm drug free and still need the serotonin. I'm not sure about other drugs just check with your doctor.

The Dr. said that this is a great product for people who are not on antidepressants as taking this would be overdosing your self ... Plus the medication I already take is working for me and to replace this with 5-HTP would not work it would be very hard on me and the withdrawal could be very ruff.
My Dr. is great at not just giving narcotics he respects my mind set... I did read on 5-HTP and it was very interesting... so the Dr. and the pharmacist said the very same thing ...how ever this is a great product and dose work...But is was not for me...
Every time I post I do read and seek medical advice however many Dr. have a different point of view ..I don't believe everything on the internet... I educate myself ... everyone should
There have been people that have responded to their experiences using this product and many have been good ... that is their personal opinion as many meds people use have different reactions...
Also to your response about me going to the gym that is not easy ..... and everyone is different and the level of tolerance is very different with FM I'm sure you know that.
I do not have any medical back ground I have life experiences ..mine as everyone on this site...
Do you have a medical back ground?
And this site id to share our thoughts and question about anything having to do with FM and to encourage people not put them down.
And I'm sure you are not the only one who researches before they post ..happy you do as well.
I too was off work for 2 years... very ill with FM...you should not compare what other can or can not do.
Thank you for your concern!!
Also when I traveled to Peru I was in great pain for 2 days and I always am when I travel but I don't let that stop me from enjoying the world, we are the only ones that limit ourselves ... I have chosen to do just that ... I live in pain every day, but I will not let it control me... that is something I can do ... with lots of practice...

In Canada you can get it in the drug store shoppers drug mart I was talking to the pharmacist today about this and he said if we are on antidepressant we should not mix the two could be dangerous. And I also asked if this would be better then the antidepressant I was on which is cipralex 20mg and he said no..

But if you want to try the natural way this is a great start but remember to consult with your dr. There could be a withdraw from the other med you will need to stop.

SummerE: Does the 5-HTP help? I currently take cymbalta twice a day, but am having more flare ups than not, my joints feel like they are on fire. I was wondering if adding 5-HTP would be of any benefit.
