CAn Anyone Please Share Thier Experiences Of Attending A Pain Clinic UK?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have my first appointment at a pain clinic on Friday, but I am not sure what it entails. Can any of the UK fibro friends help me with their experiences of attending one. I know that they differ from region to region. Fibro friends from overseas, I am not excluding you becaue I don't value your input, I just feel that your experiences might differ greatly from UK treatments; however, feel free to let me know If I am wrong :) - thanks to all

I have just completed a Persistant Pain Programme and i must say it has really helped..... You get taught everything from Meds to Tai Chi and everything in between.... Its not trying to get rid of the pain its learning how to deal with what you have......

I've just completed a 9 week chronic pain programme. It's been fantastic for the mental side of things and acceptance. We did gentle exercise each week. Relaxation and mindfulness. And also practical elements, every day life struggles. They never claimed it would help with pain and it didn't but with it being a group session it was nice to meet like minded people and we all shared things that made our lives easier and helped others that were in a dark place. It's information I will forever keep with me it's being a fab experience I'm gutted it's over.

I have been to a few but didn't follow then thru and am restarting one on the 3 June. Lift psychology did offer a great one. It was a group meeting where you went once a week foe 5 weeks. They teach you mindfulness and how.to pace yourself to manage your pain. The asked the group what triggers their.pain, ie stress, anxiety and doing g too much to name a few. Then they give you a diary for each week foe you to record what you have done and how.it has affected you so you can build a bigger picture I.e there is always. Tomorrow for what you can't do today and teaches you how to change the way you think. they don't recommend drugs etc.. I only managed 2 out of the 5 as I had some surgery which stopped from attending the rest. sadly there us no longer funding for.lift psychology. This time I am going to try a different hospital ti see if the way they do things will be more beneficial to me. So far I have has 7 spinal injections, tried loads of different medication including steroids which really helped the pain but taking them have side effects and u have to take more meds to counteract them. I now try to avoid stressful situations, do a little each day and when it starts to hurt stop. Occasionally I will push myself to much and have a few days in bed. I will up date after next appt with new hospital to let u k ow how I get on. I have also had physio acupuncture and sport massage. It is trying to find the right treatment for you

I've done a short course just outside Edinburgh and found it helpful so far as helping me accept and come to terms with my illness and all that goes with it. We had discussions on how to deal with pain, how to be kind to yourself, how to rest and relax, learning that it's OK to say no. Basic exercises etc. One of the best aspects of it was being with other chronic pain suffers and gathering info on how different people cope. Good luck and go in with an open mind. Xx

Mine was too funny... when I look back of course at that moment I was hurting sooooo bad I wanted to scream.
This was in the beginning ... when I had tried every drug in the market NOT ON THE STREETS LOL
I walked in and was expecting the Dr. to tell me of some miracle drug that I had not tried ..
But out of his mouth came HAVE YOU TRIED MARIJUANA ??
I was sooo surprised and even took offence to it of course I did not know that it was in good faith..
I walked out of there and said wow this is what I get at a pain clinic a drug pusher Dr.???

But I was soo far off .. and yrs later look back and can only laugh at this and all the people in the office that looked at me as if I was on a drug myself..
They will educate you with things that you may have not tried and keep an open mind ...and remember to research everything and see if it can benefit you... pros and cons
