I know every time I am going to have a flare up due to certain smells. Usually if I am going to have a flare that doesn't last very long I will start smelling cigarette smoke. No one in my family smokes not even friends. If it is going to be a flare from HELL I will smell gasoline before and during the flare. I have seen a neurologist but nothing was out of the ordinary. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.
This is something I have experienced . I didn't mention it to the Dr. I thought it sounded crazy. I told him I'm sensitive to odors but not that I smell things that aren't there. I have never heard anyone mention this before. Glad I'm not the only one.
Yes. I smell cigarettes and when I'm experiencing a bad flare I can smell the ash tray! My doc says its "Phantom Smells" and has me taking fluticasone nasal spray every day. I forget to use it the remember when the smell comes back.
I Also smell cigarette smoke or wood burning. I also though I was crazy!!
It does seem always to be something that is less than desirable. I am with you on wishing the smell would be something yummy! Lol
I seem to smell whatever was the last potent putrid thing I've come across. My son, who has much worse FM, doesn't seem to have these issues. It's worse if I have been using a steroid nose spray which makes sense as it thins your membranes. Of course, it never happens with the smell of something yummy like shortbread or gingerbread. :(
