Members shared a wide range of remedies for managing leg cramps, with tonic water being confirmed as helpful by several people despite its unpleasant taste, while others found relief through magnesium supplements, potassium, vitamin E, B12, pickle juice, and sugar-free Gatorade. Many community members described the importance of choosing the right form of magnesium, since magnesium citrate can cause digestive issues while magnesium malate works better for muscles, and some noted that addressing underlying deficiencies like iron or vitamin D through testing made a meaningful difference. A recurring theme was the challenge of affording both prescriptions and over-the-counter supplements, with members offering creative workarounds like making homemade electrolyte drinks and finding combination pills to reduce costs.

The salt helps and sugar free Gatorade is go too! Although I'm frugal and make my own using Kool-Aid , artificial sugar and salt :-)

I haven't tried tonic water but I drink Gatorade and it really seems to help. I found out athletes use it for the same thing, it's something with the sodium that it contains. If I've exercised or sweat alot, I get horrible leg cramps and I grab the sugar free Gatorade. Good luck and soft hugs,
Brenda

I had leg cramps so bad that I actually bruised. I too was told to use Tonic water, it did help a bit for a while. I just did a sleep study, they allowed me to do at home as my insurance is so poor. I am getting fitted for CPAP this week. They tested me for a certain kind of Iron deficiency (which is common for FM and RLS) and sure enough I needed Iron. The OTC is called Bifera. I know how painful they can be, HUGS!
