Need advice on coping with migraines and FM. What have you found will take the edge off so that it's not so debilitating. I'm at my wits end and not coping well.

This happened about 2 weeks ago.

A FB friend guided me toward the alternative therapy of piercing a specific part of the ear for migraine relief the other day. She had her daith pierced, as many do. I had never heard of this before. The day before yesterday, I went and got an emergency shot of tordol for the headaches which did not touch them really. Maybe 10%, but that still leaves me entirely dysfunctional and quality of life far, far below acceptable. So, I prayed and decided I had almost nothing to lose by giving this a shot. On the way to the shop, as I could not allow any light to reach my face, I prayed while I covered my eyes with my hat that God just give me a piercer who really, really knew what they were doing and would do so with compassion. When we arrived and got ready to do it, the piercer who could see I was clearly in agony highly recommended that I get the tragus done instead of the daith. She explained that it is a much stronger pressure point. As I had not read about that, I was momentarily confused but, then I remembered that I had let this up to God, so I said sure, that's fine. She also recommended I do both on the same day so as to traumatize myself only the one day. Fine too. $20. per ear.
You all who know me know how important it is to me to take as few prescriptions as possible and still maintain some quality to my life. This is a GIANT contribution. MONUMENTAL. It is my only piercing, the two holes in my earlobes are closed as I can't tolerated earrings there.
For you who know what walking in migraine shoes is, I cannot encourage this enough. Yesterday, I went in to the shop with a migraine at 8. She did the right first, but as soon as she did the left, (it was horrible, and I did see stars like you do during a concussion), within about 30 seconds, my headache was at a 4 and I could take off one of the pairs of sunglasses and my hat. It felt like a miracle. Truly, it did.

In the 2 weeks since, I do have mild pressure headaches almost daily. I went back to the piercer for her to put on beads of a heavier gauge since some on the FB site have had a little more relief with heavier beads. These headaches have the same components as my migraines used to. I have the aura, all the pressure, and only about 1/20 of the pain. And the Fioricet I have works for the headache, in addition to using a cold towel, going to a dark, still room for some rest. If I don't take the Fioricet and take comort measures, it does grow to a monster migraine. But, previous to the piercing, they were hitting me instantly as a full 8 or 9, with no time to medicate or take measures. Like a sledgehammer. This has made life so much more livable. Migraines have always been one of my top fibro components but now that I am in perimenopause, they are super problematic again. So grateful that I stumbled on the info about a simple ear piercing and that it has helped me. I highly recommend.

When I feel a migraine coming on I double up on caffeine and if that doesn't work I take Maxalt. That seems to work well and not knock me out. That is just me though.

Happy Birthday Moreen. Hope you day was a blessed day. Hey just wanted to let you know that my migraines have been helped greatly by a Juice Plus and by changing what I eat. My husband and I have decided not to eat anything that has been processed. No box good, no can good. Only food that are fresh, fresh fruits and vegetables ,lean meats such as chicken, turkey, bison and venison. I drink at least 1 gallon of water a day. Then to end my day I drink a complete smoothie. Juice Plus makes the complete also. Juice plus is fruits and vegetables and berries in a capsule and I get my recommend amount plus some everyday. I love it I have so much more energy, less pain and migraines. And the best part I am off of so much medications. God is Good. By making some simple changes in my life style I have improved my health and my life. I hope this helps you. Be glad to talk to you more about any of this.
