Members shared mixed experiences when asked about pain management doctors, with some finding compassionate specialists who understand fibromyalgia while others encountered providers who dismissed alternative therapies like chiropractic care and yoga, rotated through nurses instead of seeing the actual doctor, or forced medications despite side effects. Several members described their current pain regimens, including combinations of Tramadol, oxycodone, muscle relaxants, and Butrans patches, with many expressing concern about opioid dependency and noting that pain remains only tolerable rather than fully controlled. A recurring theme was the importance of thoroughly researching pain clinics and individual doctors beforehand, seeking providers who emphasize non-drug treatments alongside medication, and advocating for oneself when treatments aren't working or side effects become problematic.

I now am on Burtans patch 20. I also take 4 5mg oxycodone a day. Pain is tolerable but not under control. I see a pain doctor in Colorado. It's very frustrating that some docs don't believe in pain killers for Fibro. I have tried it all and pain meds are the only thing that help.

I've never gone to a psi specialist and only go to a PCP for other things along with sin mgmte..... He has cut my dose in half of what I was taking. Before I was able to function more and do more things and now just barely getting by as far as pain goes but I've heard horror stories from some pain mgmte., centers so Im stuck in between!
I wish and think all new and old Dr's., should have follow-up studies with treating people with Fibro!

I've had pain management before, it's a brilliant idea, but it can take a while for an appointment and then even longer trying different things to find one that helps. I have found acupuncture to be the best so I know just ask to be sent for that.
