Hi. I forgot to tell you. It's when I sign on through the Web browser. Once you sign in that way, you can see the comments. I normally use the mobile app and I was having the same problem of it taking me to the profile. The only thing. You can read the story. But on everything else it only shows the last answer to a question. Not all the others. I hope this is s better answer. It works for me. :-)

Usually there is a section after your in notifications and reading you should be able to "comment" to the person there. I have had to get out before and get back in because it wasn't working right.
