I have always had such a bad problem with sleep. I either sleep way to much or way to little. Currently my sleep schedule is controlled by fibromyalgia. I will be in pain for days so I will be up for days with little to no sleep. Then when I finally crash I am out for days. I would love to have a normal sleep schedule. Does anyone use anything herbal or prescription that helps with getting a more normal sleep pattern?
The dr just recently put me on seroquel and amazingly it knocks me out.
Seroquel definitely knocks you out, but it also makes you feel hungover the next day. I slept 12 or more hours a day on it, but then went back to doctor and he had me on 200 mg at bedtime. He then decreased me to 50 mg at bedtime and I could get up in the morning. Have doc start you out on a very low dose, as the dosage can be increased if needed. There is no reason they need to put you on 200 mg to start when the dosage starts out as low as 25 mg. A very good sleep drug, nonetheless.
I started taking Hylands Calms Forte, bought over the counter at CVS pharmacy. Helps me sleep better mostly because it seems to help with the restless legs.
you could also try lavender oil on your pillow or a lavender candle.
Melatonin all the way. Totally natural. Start on low dose and work up to what dose works for you. The trick is to take it the same time every day and try to lay down the same time every night to establish a stable sleep pattern. Also try a bedtime routine of about 30 minutes to wind down and get yourself in the mindset for sleep. It can be anything that relaxes you: bath, reading, meditation, aromatherapy, whatever works for you just NO SCREENS. No phone, computer, or tv. I take a hot shower, put on lavender scented lotion and read.
