Mallet Hammer Reflex
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was wondering if those who have had the mallet hammer reflex text had them show there nerves and reflexes respond More then normal, Less then normal or Normal?

Tapping my knee actually looks like a comedic act. My whole leg jumps. It also feels strange. A little like bumping the funny bone in my elbow, but without the pain.

Yes, it is true that doctors and neurologists still use the reflex hammer in this century! The response of deep tendon reflexes are still an essential part of the physicians assessment.

Mine over-respond. I almost kicked the doctor in a rather sensitive area. Yikes! lol

I just wanted to add this little bit on 12tribes comment ... do not take this wrong ty for your comment, I did go ahead a did a little research on your response because my neurologist use them, and my friends who go to neurologist use them, so i wanted to check it out... it is standard and very much used daily

(Your neurologist or doctor will undoubtedly also check your deep tendon reflexes. Everyone has had this done to them, with the little hammer. Your muscles and tendons stretch out when tapped and what they are looking for is whether or not there is symmetry on both sides. Do your reflexes look the same on both sides of your body. Is there a lack of reflex or alternatively do you have exaggerated or rapid fire reflexes which shoot out too quickly? Asymmetry or abnormal reflexes can also be a sign of neurological damage. - See more at: http://www.healthcentral.com/multiple-sclerosis...)
