Members rallied around someone describing chest tightness and breathing difficulty that felt like having a bad cold without actually being sick, with many sharing similar experiences and possible causes. Several members identified anxiety and depression as culprits, describing the sensation as an elephant sitting on the chest and recommending techniques like deep breathing exercises, guided meditations, or medications such as Cymbalta to relieve the fight-or-flight response common in fibromyalgia. A recurring theme was the importance of ruling out serious conditions with a doctor first, while also recognizing that fibromyalgia can cause flu-like symptoms and chest pain even when tests come back normal, and that humor and community support help ease the fear and isolation of these frightening episodes.

I used to think I was having a heart attack. It was the anxiety and depression that was doing it to me. I found if you lie down and put one hand on your chest and one hand on your stomach and concentrate of the breathing that it really does help.

Yes, you feel like your getting the flu. I read that we also suffer flu like symptoms with fibro. They last a day or so then it goes away. My sister's make a joke about it now if I say I feel like I'm getting the flu. They laugh yea alright and it be gone in a couple of days. Lol and usually the feeling is gone in a day or two. Laughter is the best medicine! If not we would always be crying! Gentle hugs and keep smiling.
