Every day when I get out of bed, I have to lie back down for several hours. I have not been getting up until at least 9am. Is this normal with the fibro? It is killing me and this is the only thing that I really can't handle. I have always, ALWAYS been a happy and bright morning person. I have a really hard time with this. Any suggestions?

Members overwhelmingly validated that extreme morning fatigue and all-day exhaustion are normal parts of living with fibromyalgia, with many sharing they need to rest for hours after waking or don't feel functional until 9am or later, a stark change from being former morning people. Several members offered practical strategies including letting go of comparisons to pre-fibro abilities, listening to your body's natural rhythm without guilt, requesting sleep aids from doctors, and exploring Modafinil, a narcolepsy medication that one member credited with dramatically improving their energy after years of being awake only four hours a day. A recurring theme was the importance of self-compassion and accepting this new reality, with members encouraging each other to rest when needed, celebrate small accomplishments, and stop fighting against what their bodies require to function.

We get so hard on ourselves to fit with what is deemed a good time to wake up or comparing ourselves to our old selves. If you don't have to get up till 9am don't fight it, its what your body needs now. Being annoyed you don't get up earlier only adds to the cycle of stress and anxiety. Be nice to yourself, if 9am is your new optimal, go with it :) I'm a 9.30-45 person.

I think it is normal. When I don't have to take the kids to school or have anything to do that day I can sleep all day if they let me. I am so tired.

I posted above about my new med that really was helping me. 9 or 930 was totally a joke before the med. Even if I woke by 1030,could do much to clean up,get dressed & moving until 1 or 2. Then if I didn't take a nap by 3 it was 5 or 6. Or sometimes not a nap, just had to lie down. More awake now with this med. However, got a bad cold a week ago Thurs, after traveling to see my sister with cancer for 1 week. Been in bed off and on for the last 10 days ,so didn't bother taking the Modanifil much. Took it yesterday & today, but still am fatigued. Guess,it can't get thru when you're additionally run down in addition to the fibro fatigue. Hope this cold & dripping goes away soon, butt is sore from all the lying around & lack of accomplishing. Hugs to all!

Yes ..I'm tired when I wake up in the morning even after sleeping pretty well and as the day goes one I just get more and more exhausted, bu about 6pm, I'm wiped out and just want to go to sleep but I have a son and have to make sure he takes a shower and gets to sleep at 8:30pm...It's normal for having FM.
