Left Scapula
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone had chronic sharp aching pain in the left scapula for longer than 3 years? Any good treatments? I've tried every treatment out there.

Hi Kara28. I am right there with you with the scapula pain. Mine is left too, and has been there for many years. I have walked out of a myofascial release appointment and had the shoulder feeling great, for it to return the next day. For me I think it is a combination of the fibro but also that I have some muscle imbalances in the back and shoulders because of the fibro, and the fear of moving that the fibro pain has caused me over the years. The real solution for me is to get the muscles moving and functioning better. The best solution I have found is to warm up in my sauna and then do gentle shoulder movements.

I have bad shoulders. I have pain from my neck on down to the lower part of the scapula. In both shoulders. It's hard for me as I can't sleep on my back or my stomach, and I wake with very sore shoulders and ribs. IF I sleep well at all. I would go to a massage therapist now and then when i just couldn't take anymore and needed the relief. However, sometimes, it would hurt to the touch. They just need to know how tender we are and they work with that. Also, I hope you keep up with a Dr. about that constant pain as it could be a symptom of something else.

Another option to the theta came is to stand against a wall and roll athe sore spot against tennis ball, or yoga tune. I have one of those theracane poles and I find it very harsh and usually aggravate my muscles. I find the balls more gentle and you can use different balls of different hardness depending how sore you are. If you are interested in trying this type of self massage treatment, check out the book The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, your Self treatment guide for pain relief third edition. The authors are Clair Davies and Amber Davies. It is an amazing book and has helped me a lot. It says right on the front of the book that it is a proven method (by massage therapists) for overcoming soft tissue paipain for Fibromyalgia and chronic myofascial pain syndrome. I have learned a lot of ways to help myself with this book including how to get rid of my tension headaches.

I saw that someone had posted about a product called the thera cane. It allows you to apply deep pressure to muscles ... similar to acupuncture points to release muscular pain and tension. I think I am going to try it.
Will let you know how it works out.
