Members connected over the frustrating and often embarrassing experience of balance problems and frequent falls, with many sharing that they now rely on canes, walkers, or wheelchair assistance to stay safe. Several members identified practical causes and solutions, including medication side effects (especially anti-seizure drugs like Dilantin and Tegretol), vertigo or inner ear issues treated with meclizine or vestibular therapy, low blood pressure that drops upon standing, and spinal nerve compression that worsens with quick head movements. A recurring theme was the importance of slowing down, staying hydrated, checking with doctors about medication adjustments or blood work, and letting go of embarrassment or vanity in favor of using whatever assistive devices help prevent dangerous falls.

Hi everyone. Someone posted a picture with different talking points and it talked about balance issues. It was called neurally mediated hypotension. Thought I would just pass that on. Perhaps that might be something to bring up at the Drs visit.

make sure you are hydrated with water of unsweetened ice tea. To communicate with your MD - think about the triggers or what triggers your body to lose balance; when it happens what are the circumstances, and any injuries. Be sure to talk to your MD - ask for an assertive devices walkers. cane, or scooters. So Sorry to hear you are having these issues!!!

My medicine that I'm on causes this. Are you taking any and could this be their side effects.

Emmasandy. Talk to your MD and get a referral to a vestibular clinic (usually pts and ots). They can teach you the eye and head exercises and exercises to help improve your balance. Good luck.

I can occasionally become unsteady on my feet, but not enough to feel unsafe. I haven't fallen either, just wobble from time to time as if I'm tripping over my own feet x
