Members shared mixed experiences with the switch from Citalopram to Sertraline for fibromyalgia symptoms, with several noting that while it helped reduce anxiety and panic attacks, it often took 4 to 6 weeks to feel the benefits. A major recurring concern was significant weight gain, with multiple members reporting gains of 3 to 4 stone that were difficult to reverse even after stopping the medication, though a few members mentioned feeling better overall or experiencing no side effects at lower doses. Many members emphasized that antidepressants affect everyone differently and encouraged patience while adjusting, with some suggesting alternative medications like Wellbutrin or Amitriptyline that may have fewer weight-related side effects.

wellbutrin won't make you gain weight, I've been on almost every one and if I gain weight I quit because i'm depressed enough gaining weight just makes me worse. That and the going up on the meds and coming down to go off of them thats bad

Hi Sharon...it is one of the most frustrating side effects with these meds. Most of us are less active because of our pain...and then to add insult to injury...the med to ease our pain or our mental health issues...makes us gain wait...so depression also gets worse. It is awful! I gained 45 lbs each year I was on Lyrica....my depression got much worse. I hope you find a better med that will work for you without the bad side effects.

so you went from Paxil to Zoloft. Both are anti depressants. I can't take either one, I get really bad suicidal thoughts on them, along with serious panic attacks. I was put on wellbutrin and just barely had a few panic attacks going on them but once it got in my system I'm doing good and i haven't gained but a few lbs and the others I gained a lot.

I was on sertraline for about a yr and a half it did help with the depression but I've put three stone on I've just been changed to one that will help me sleep and hopefully be able to lose some of this weight as dieting on sertraline did nothing I even carried on putting weight on with weight loss meds from the docs .. Having said that it effects people differently I've read some people actually lose weight
