What Is Everyone's Opinion On Being Taken To HR At Work Due To My Possible Side Effects Of Gabapentin?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I'm not sure how to feel about this. About a week or two ago I wrote on my update here on MyFibroTeam, that I was sent home from work due to extreme dizziness, nausea, light, sound sensitivity and being off balance. It was awful. I returned to work 2 days later still feeling off balance and dizzy but not like the last two days. I saw my Rheumatologist the next week and she lowered my meds to see if it was the Fibro or the meds. That same week, I was discussing my schedule with my supervisor. The… read more

Managers and supervisors are not allowed to question your medical issues. Do not give HR any details. Talk with your doctor first and have him/her send the HR dept notification that you are under a doctors care.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I suggest you order two books from Amazon.com.
1. Fibromyalgia & Myofasial Pain Syndrome by Devin Starlanyl MD.
2. The Fibromyalgia Advocate by Devin Starlanyl MD.
She is a doctor who has these two diseases and speaks from experience. Her books explained a lot more to me than any other doctor I have seen over the years. I recently ordered both books for my Niece who is applying for disability as the Dr addresses that too. It cost me .01 cent each used book and shipping. She lacks a lot if info into these books. Good luck. Let me know how you are doing.

It could have just been a matter of liability on their part. Because if you fall or get hurt at work, regardless of the underlying medical condition, they might be liable for workman's comp or a lawsuit. So they may have be assessing you for special safety precautions they may need to put in place. Just keep a diary of these incidents because they cannot fire you for having Fibro. (((Hugs)))

Hopefully your symptoms are simply side effects of the medication. Maybe they will continue as long as you're on it or maybe they will subside--I know I had side effects from a new medication that went away after a few days.

It sounds like you need to be proactive and keep track of any and all related incidents--just like they are. That's something I like about email, it is recording everything said. I know that people value face-to-face conversations, especially when it is something important, but I try to keep heated situations in email form. If you get brought into HR again or another talk of some sort about this, I would ask if you can record the conversation on your phone (don't do it secretively, that is illegal in most cases and places). Basically, just be aware of what's going on at your work and document as much as possible. And like others said, never sign something you don't fully understand the consequences of. Good luck!
