For the last few weeks I have suffered with a chronic dry mouth. To day my tongue feels as though it is on fire. Some of the skin is flaking off and it is really red. It hurts to eat and drink. Has anyone else suffered with this and if so what can I do to help relieve it. Thanks in advance and hugs to all xxx

Members responded to someone experiencing a painful, burning tongue with dry mouth by suggesting several possible causes, including thrush from medications like inhalers, geographic tongue as a fibromyalgia symptom, lichen planus, low iron, or side effects from Amitriptyline which many confirmed causes chronic dry mouth. Several members shared practical remedies that helped them manage similar symptoms, including Biotene products (rinse, toothpaste, and spray), salt water gargles, a homemade gargle with salt, vinegar, and baking powder, avoiding spicy or acidic foods, sucking ice or popsicles, and using special gentle toothpastes like Oral B. A recurring theme was the importance of seeing a doctor for proper diagnosis and prescription treatments like Fluconazole for thrush or medicated mouthwash, with members emphasizing that these oral symptoms are common with fibromyalgia and certain medications but should not be ignored.

Dry mouth can be helped by Biotine gel and a gum they make. Unfortunately I discovered this to late and that we're prone to certain oral diseases. Lack of this information caused me major tooth loss.

try a salt water gargle. when the severity lessons, brush you tongue with your toothpaste. gargle several times a day and keep your mouth clean. stay away from spicy foods and salty foods, tomatoes, processed lunch meat & cheese, chips, pretzels and all that. I suffer from sjorgrens syndrome and the sore inflamed tongue is part of it. as long as I am careful what I eat and drink, it doesn't hurt

Sounds like Thrush. Look it up online. In my line of work it's caused by inhalers with steroids in them (Respiratory Therapy). But there are several things that cause thrush. I hear it's very painful. This is only one thing it can be. I would see your doctor to get that looked into soon.

@A MyFibroTeam Member i have problems with my tongue and have had for a while, when i brush my teeth i can't let toothpaste touch my tongue and i simply cannot use mouthwash otherwise i am in agony for hours. If i make a curry for tea i can't have it too strong otherwise again agony but my kids like it hot so i sometimes try it but i never get through it. I asked about it and was told i had something called Geographical Tongue and that it is in fact a symptom of Fibro or even medication you take. The dry mouth or cotton mouth i also suffer from but mine is caused by the meds i take for my Prostate problem and was warned about it before i started taking them. I hope some of this helps you xx

Sorry to hear that, I get an awful dry mouth, I take Amitriptyline at night, doc said it was a side affect. Also noticed this week eating Pine Apple (only a little) makes the end of my tongue sting. It's weird Hope you get it sorted. X
