Members bonded over the frustrating and often embarrassing experience of sudden overheating and profuse sweating with fibromyalgia, with many noting it happens even in cold weather and isn't related to menopause or hormone levels. Several members shared practical strategies including wearing layers for easy adjustment, using multiple fans (especially tower or bedside fans), trying merino wool base layers for temperature regulation, keeping cooling face masks on hand, and using prescription-strength antiperspirants to manage underarm sweating. A recurring theme was connecting stress and anxiety to worse sweating episodes, the importance of checking medication side effects (especially Cymbalta and Savella), and finding comfort in knowing others share this exhausting and isolating symptom.

OMG! I get overheated in like 30 seconds. I hate it. I'm taking I hate it. I woke up this morning in a puddle of sweat. I've had a total hystorectomy and I'm taking hormones for that. If I get upset or stressed I get really really fast.

Makes menopause seem like a picnic! But I've learned to accept it as part of FM and compared to the other problems and challenges it is a minor nuisance.

I too have been having sweating problems and was wondering if it was the fibro. I have had a horrible flare the last 4 days and sweat. Wow. I had a hysterectomy when I was 39 and went into early menopause. Definitely not that. Anyone else have this sort of thing. Its just nice to know you're not alone.

Me too, I can't stand it!! I live in Minneapolis and I take my dog outside when it is 30 degrees in a tank top. My family says it is menopause, but I had a hysterectomy and I am on estrogen. So I know it is the Fibro. It is worse when I am stressed. I never looked at the med side effect thing, thanks for the tip @A MyFibroTeam Member

Some of the meds could be causing the sweats. Cymbalta, and Savella are two of them that it's one of the top side effects. I too sweat like a pig, so gross, but it really started after the Savella. I have a ceiling fan and floor fan next to my bed. I live in MI and our thermostat is set at 66 year round. My hubby freezes, but let's me keep it cool in here. Sometimes the cold hurts my legs, but that sweating thing is just so gross! Check your medicine side effects!!
