Members warmly reassured someone struggling with swallowing difficulties and panic that they are not alone, with many sharing similar experiences of throat spasms, anxiety, and the frightening sensation of forgetting how to swallow naturally. Several members offered practical strategies including staying calm and centering oneself, chewing gum to trigger the swallow reflex, drinking cold fluids or sucking on ice, using anxiety medication when needed, and addressing dry mouth caused by medications like Gabapentin. A recurring theme was the importance of consulting a doctor to rule out other causes like thyroid issues or acid reflux, while offering compassionate support and validation for the fear and panic that often accompanies this symptom.

Hi! I was told fibromyalgia effects all the nerve endings in ur body. So why not ur throat. I even had a flare up in my eyes which is no fun at all. All I can't think to suggest is to try drinking cold drinks or suck on ice cubes. I hope it helps u & it doesn't last too long. U should always follow up wth ur doctor.

Oh my gosh yes. Normally swallowing is a reflex but I have to think about it. Then I think I'm going to choke
