What Treatments Are There For Really Bad IBS?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Recently ive been really struggling with a flare up of severe IBS symptoms (intense stomach pain, extreme bloating, huge amounts of trapped wind, cramps and bowel spasms etc)..

I was wondering if anyone else suffers with very severe IBS symptoms? If so, are you on any meds for it? Do they work? And what else do you do that eases your symptoms? X

Have you had your vitamin D levels checked? It's been shown that many IBS sufferers are low in vitamin D, and when they start taking supplements their symptoms improved... Which was true for me.

Hi, sorry to hear of your bout with IBS. I suffer with this too and have for years. As I have grown older I have discovered that many of my problems turned out to be food intolerances. I am very lactose intolerant so only eat and drink diary that is lactose free. Lactose was my biggest problem but I also cant eat pork products and raw veggies like broccoli and cauliflower among other brassica veggies. I chew an enzyme called Beano when I want to eat raw veggies and it works really well. Beano is a digestive enzyme that helps digest the veggie sugars and prevents gas, bloating and diarrhea. Also I keep Buscapam medication in my medicine cabinet for those times that I get a bout as it takes a few days to a week to recover. Buscapam is a medication that relaxes the bowels so they are not contracting (which causes the cramps and ribbon like stool). All these things have helped me immensely as I use to live in fear of getting an attack and not being home or near a bathroom. ( I still carry extra cloths with me just in case) IBS is a difficult illness to deal with so I sure hope you can find something that will help you too. Take care!

Hi, I take buscopan which helps & cut out wine, the paracetamol & codeine mite not help u 2 much as they constipate u, which in turn doesn't help the bloating, I find if I eat green veg or lettuce it aggravates my Ibs, hope this helps & hope ur feeling better really soon xx

I suffer with it, but as long as I avoid white bread and overeating I'm ok, I've even passed out on the toilet because of the pain before, it's not pleasant, you need to find out what triggers it and try and avoid it
