The few meds that they will give, in my opinion are dangerous , cause very bad side effects and do not work, at least not for me. The pain is chronic and so unbearable, nothing brings any relief. I don't know where to turn for help when everyone dismisses you, like its nothing, no big deal! This is my life, what's left of it and I am barely hanging on. My hope has faded with every appt. & every attempt at help. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Members shared deep frustration over doctors' reluctance to prescribe pain medications for fibromyalgia, with many attributing this to DEA regulations, fears of dependency, and outdated beliefs that narcotics worsen pain sensitivity over time. Several members found relief through pain management specialists who prescribed combinations including gabapentin, tramadol, oxycodone, Cymbalta, and muscle relaxers, while others explored alternatives like medical marijuana, exercise, water therapy, and researching the Epstein-Barr virus connection. A recurring theme was the vital importance of self-advocacy, refusing to give up, fighting for proper treatment, and finding doctors who truly listen and understand that unmanaged chronic pain destroys quality of life.

Definitely try to see a pain specialist. That's who finally diagnosed me and has been great about trying different medications to find what works best. I'm currently on hydrocodone, limbrel (supplement based anti imflammatory), gabapentin(must have for flare ups), cymbalta, and flexeril (muscle relaxer) as needed. So far it's working, but it took some months of trying different meds and dosages to get there.

A lot of Drs have become wary of prescribing pain medicines due to DEA regulations. In my area several Drs have had their license revoked after prescribing too many narcotics.

I have an appointment this week to speak with a doctor who prescribes medical marijuana. I have spoken to a number of acquaintances that are currently on it (prescription by the name of "Nabilone" and does miracles. Please God let me be eligible for this. I'll keep you all posted! Wish me luck!

I'm almost on the same combo... I would be stuck in bed all day without gabapentin...
