Side Effects Of Any Medication

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone found that the fibro makes any side effect of medication way worse? I seem to get the worst side effects ever and my body usually builds up a tolerance to them after just a couple of doses. So then the medication doesn't work plus it's making me sicker.

Yes, the same thing seems to happen to me. At first they seem to help a bit but then I lose any benefit and just get negative side effects. And I have always hated taking prescription meds of any kind so this past couple of years has been hard. I've actually wondered if the first couple of days I'm having a placebo effect!

I think that the majority of the medication that I am on is to combat the side effects. Prior to Fibromyalgia, I never suffered from side effects of medication. Now I get some of the strangest reactions, some that aren't even listed. When my 10 year old daughter was a baby, I was on Neurontin, and it caused me to get really angry and go into fits of rage.

Some meds have opposites of them and often it's trial and error as to which one works better for you for example gabapentine has its opposite reactions in pregabalin. I had huge side effects with pregabalin and yet on gabapentine I've had none ... Maybe ask your Dr for the alternatives to your meds as you shouldn't build up a resistance that fast .... X
God luck x

I cannot take most medications. I have a list of 18 - same thing, they might work a little bit but the side effects kill me.

can you do a drug DNA test at your pain dr? I did and it told me how many drugs I hyper-metabolize (lyrica, cymbalta, lydocain) I would need lethal doses to help. It's pretty cool
