My pain started in my pelvic area so I have one that is in my hip and block pelvic nerve signals but it is the same thing as a tens unit but it is implanted. It was put in by a Urologist. It is a Medtronic Interstem Unit. It helps a lot for that area. He thinks my pain may have been caused by nerves being cut during an abdominal surgery. I was actually able to go back to work 2 weeks after getting that but after a while I started getting more pain all over. The doctor said the tens unit isn't practical for fibromyalgia because they can't block all the pain and you'd have to have one for each area or group of nerves and they are not meant for that. They are typically used when you have pain in just one area like your back. I think the nerve pain triggered the Fibromyalgia for me.

I didn't know there was something external available so I don't know how that works. I have heard from a few people that have a tens unit implanted for back pain and they work for some people and not for others.

What are the brand names of your units and where did you get them? I'm looking into getting one...

I have a tens unit. I use it sometimes when the pain is really bad. I t works for the most part but not long lasting. Alot of times I will use it and a heating pad at the same time. It wasn't very expensive, and my insurance paid for it the one I got runs about 70 dollars. Hope all goes well. Stay positive! Hugs.

I have one and like it for localized pain. most insurances will pay for one if prescribed by the doc.
