Financial Help
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone know if you can get any financial help / benefits whilst struggling with fibromyalgia? I am close to losing my job and will not be able to do full time hours any more. In a difficult situation with money. Anyone help? UK please

I'm the same, I was a senior medical secretary and had a lot of responsibility. Now I feel I can't string a sentence together, gave up my job and am on Employment support allowance of £73.20 a week which is s change from the £25,000 a year I was on. I get nothing else and have a medical at the job centre on Friday which if it's anything like the PIP medical will be a pointless waste of time!

Hiya @A MyFibroTeam Member the benefits I receive are ESA (Employment Support Allowance) & PIP (Personal IndependantPayment). For ESA you have to be unemployed, but PIP you can get while you work. You phone them up, they ask you some questions, then they send out a questionnaire which you fill in and send back. Then you are given an assessment, then they assess your case then give you an answer back. Think in total it took me less than 2 months for the whole process. Go onto HM Revenue & Customs website, all the information you need is on there. If you are only working part-time you might be entitled to help with rent & council tax too. Hope this helps a little xxx

Hi guys.. I went to citizens advise yesterday and was pretty much a waste of time. Sat there in agony as well doesn't seem worth it. I've been told to apply for PIP and that's all I can get as my partner earns too much.. I've sent off for the forms but guarantee I won't get it.. I rang the doctors yesterday for some more tablets and then someone rang back an hour later saying I needed an emergency tablet. I hope they don't take me off what I am on as I am fed up of being messed about and switched.. Especially when my specialist said this was the best for me to be on.. It is just a nightmare! Wish it would all just stop for us all!

Update to the medical situation - I received a letter this morning stating I no longer need to attend for the medical on friday as further information has been received from ?my GP. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, good I hope, but on ringing job centre plus they weren't able to tell me what the impact of this decision would be on me! It's made me anxious, more so than normal. It's replaced the anxiety that I was feeling about Friday.....you can't win 😕.
