I have had the shots before but my doctor has suggested steroid pills. I would welcome comments. Thanks

Members shared mixed experiences with steroid pills for managing pain during prolonged sitting, with some finding immediate relief while others experienced difficult side effects or minimal benefit. Several members described serious downsides of longer-term use, including moon face, weight gain, extreme hunger, mood changes, increased illness risk, and the threat of brittle bone disease, with one member noting that weaning off was worse than taking the medication. A recurring theme was the importance of trying them yourself to see what works, as responses varied widely, and members expressed surprise that short-term use for specific events like flights might be an option when many had been told steroids couldn't be prescribed that way.

Yes I took steroid pills for just over a year , the very next day I starting taking them I felt so much better ,I have arthritis as well as fibromyalgia , although I felt alot better I was still not pain free and was still unable to work ,but I thought they were amazing ,the feeling of unwell was alot less . The down side is that you can not staly on these for long term as they can cause brittle bone disease , they make you really hungry you feel as if you need to eat loads and you gain weight. After roughly a year of taking them my specialist said that I could not have any more because of the risk of brittle bone disease.

Took prednisone 40 mg for what my GI doc thought was ulcerative colitis. I had to wean off because made me mental and OCD cleaning to the max. Weaning off was worse than taking it. Had to drop 5 mg every week. From 10gh down to 5 mg was the worst. Should have gone to 7.5 mg in between. Not worth it. Plus it makes you prone to illness, hungry all the time, your face swells up to the"moon face". And you get a fat lump on the top part of your back near your neck. No thanks.

It's interesting to me that you are being allowed steroid pills for the duration of your trip. I took steroids for a year . But have not been on them for several years now. I asked a doctor if I could use steroid tablets very short term say for 3 days for an event I needed to feel well for like my friends wedding . she literally laughed at me and said what kind of doctors had I heard of who would give out steroids like this. So I was under the impression that steroid tablets carnt be given out for short term use for flights, holidays ,weddings ect.

Purplebunny and Sammi, thank you for your comments. My doctor only wants me in it during our trip because of the long flights. Sounds like you were both using it long term. Take care

Hi, second day and no bad results or sickness. Yesterday I felt so much better but today was very stressy at work and I did not move from my chair so it a lot of pain. Oh the joys of fibro!
