Does Anyone Suffer From Stomach Ulcers?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I recently went to the er for stomach pain and the dr told me she thinks I have an ulcer and prescribed me nexium. I know fibro effects so many things in our bodies and I'm wondering if it can also cause stomach ulcers? Does anyone else have this problem?

My 1st stomach ulcer was at 18, h pylori positive again at 22 and irritated stomach lining and gastritis since. Had at least 8 endoscopies. Stomach ulcers are caused by a large amount of stress as well as nsaids like Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aspirin etc. Stay away from it as best as u can! My doc put it on my file as an "allergy" due to my sensitivity to it. Hope u feel better. Make sure u get tested for H-pilori bacteria.

I have had ulcers since I was 15 or 16 years old. Had an endoscopy a few years ago that showed numerous healed ulcers. I don't think that fibro necessarily CAUSES ulcers, but I think the stress we are under, as well as many of the other things that all of us have in common, contribute to the tendency of them. I also take nexium. Started out taking tagamet for my stomach 30 years ago, am doubled over without stomach meds.

I think some of the medication we are on can cause stomach problems too. Stay on Nexium and it helps a lot.

Never heard of that to be honest - I sometimes think they blame Fibro for everything 😢

@A MyFibroTeam Member...Just wanted to check in on you. You may want to ask the dr that diagnosed the ulcer what you can take for pain...although they will probably tell you to take Tylenol or Ultram...ummmm...how about some M&Ms too cause they are able as useful! Unfortunately for those of us that can't take the NSAIDs the only things that we are left with are - alternative therapies, steroid injections and/or opioids. Take care of yourself...and your tummy!

Cyna
