My rheumatologist told me that any any pain meds I take will only work for a short period of time so he doesn't want me to take any until I absolutely have to. I took anaprox once and it was like a miracle drug for about a month and then....nothing. My dr says that will happen with any pain meds I go on and that some studies indicate that pain meds will actually make fibromyalgia worse. So I take Cymbalta and muscle relaxers.

As you will soon learn, different meds work in various ways in different people. I noticed a significant improvement on Lyrica, no side effects and stable weight. I felt drugged on gabapentin.

I think it is possible to be pain free. I'm pain free today, hoping I don't jinx myself. I am also on strong opiates (some say they make fibro worse). I've reduced stress significantly, taken a secondary role in the household management, rest a lot and use heat for therapy or salon pas patches.

So bottom line - maybe you need to talk to your dr if you are still in pain? Try heat or ice? Muscle pain rubs? Heat packs?

Gentle hugs. I hope things get easier very soon for you.

Have you tried Zanaflex? I get relief in about 30 minutes with the Flexeril but I know others who get a hangover type feeling with it. With the Zanaflex my doctor thought I would be using it during the day. He didn't think it would make me sleepy. Maybe you are the opposite. But I do have to take the Zanaflex every single night.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I was prescribed Flexeril last year but I found it made me feel hungover for 24 hours and did not help with pain but maybe it is not immediate relief? Is it something you need to take for a few days before it helps? my back muscles get so tight that it hurts to take a deep breath, so I don't know why it didn't work.
