Does any of my Fibro buddies suffer from Costochondritis? Breast bone pain and rib pain, mainly the left side? Have you been treated for it? If so, what did they do and what was the outcome?

Members shared widespread experience with costochondritis, describing it as frightening chest and rib pain that can mimic heart attack symptoms, affecting both the front and back of the ribs and often lasting several days to a week. Several members found relief through anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or aspirin, physical therapy techniques like strain-counterstrain, heating pads, deep breathing exercises to stretch the muscles, and staying warm in cold weather to prevent muscle compression. A recurring theme was the importance of getting properly diagnosed to rule out heart issues, learning individual triggers like lifting or cold temperatures, and finding comfort in knowing others share this painful and often misunderstood symptom.

Has anyone found that warmth helps to calm fibro. pain and coldness intensifies the pain? In the winter, I buy Cuddle Duds and wear under my pants all winter long, and wear leg warmers or knee-high socks. Some experts recommend wool because it wicks away the moisture when you sweat. The combination of being wet and in the cold is not good for fibro. patients., They advise to also avoid synthetics. Substitute cotton if you can't find wool. I would like to hear what others have found to combat cold weather in the winter? My body temperature is always low (97 degrees) and I am always freezing (also symptoms of fibro.)

Me too. The lidocaine pads are all that helps, and rest.

Hi, yes I was diagnosed with Costochondritis many years ago. My pain was down the front of
my chest on both sides. Heat paks were used by the physical therapist. It not only worked for
me but when I found out what was causing the pain, I relaxed which helped in it itself.

Me too! I thought it was a heart attack! They had me hooked up to every machine and an IV done in 5 minutes! Then the ER doctor said it was pleurisy. So I really don't know if it is or not. Pleurisy is fluid in your lungs and my lungs are always healthy.

Yes I have, on and off for a few years. It is quite worrisome the first time you experience it because it can mimic heart attack symptoms. Once your diagnosed with it and can put the heart issues aside, I found Tramadol or Ibuprofen to be quite helpful, and of course my trusty old heating pad!! Inflamation is our enemy! It is so frustrating when a new symptom arises.I hope you find an answer that works for you! God bless! :)
