Exhaustion, fatigue, brain fog, chronic pain, even weight gain and high blood pressure are also caused by sleep apnea! The only way to truly find out if you have apnea is to have a sleep study. When you have apnea you stop breathing during sleep-which can cause you to suddenly wake up, effect your heart and blood pressure etc. It's crazy but sleep apnea is also very common with Fibro....is it the chicken or the egg question? But, no matter what comes first-we all need deep healing sleep. As a massage therapist (now retired due to Fibro!) I know that the body needs that down time to rest and digest. All of our internal organs do most of their work while sleeping, by not sleeping enough the whole system shorts out. Adrenal glands get fatigued, the liver and kidney can't process toxins to fortify the blood, pancreas can't produce enough insulin to balance sugar etc! I had a sleep study done several months ago (at home-not a sleep center). My insurance paid for it. You wear some head gear with wires attached while sleeping and it remotely transmits your sleep patterns including breathing to a sleep center. They report to your Dr. any findings and then most people are fitted for a CPAP machine. As we get older the soft pallet on the roof of the mouth becomes very soft and can actually hang low and block breathing. If you are a bad snorer (as I was) it's also a good indication you have apnea. My report showed I stopped breathing 46 times during the 5 hour test! With the CPAP it came down to 4 times. Now I can't say it has cured my sleep pattern but I don't fall asleep everyday while driving, using the internet or talking on the phone. I do feel somewhat refreshed and I have lost some weight. Just food for thought :D
I agree with FallenAngel that "falling asleep or dozing anywhere" can be related to narcolepsy. Or, it can be related to Obstructive Sleep Apnea, for which a sleep study is indicated. I have sleep apnea and sometimes get sleepy during the daytime even though I have had a good night's sleep.
I do that sometimes all day. I get up and during the day I start feeling exhausted and have to lay down and I fall asleep... it is like my body becomes numb... sometimes, I find myself dosing off for no reason.
Not narcolepsy it's exhaustion from flipping around all night trying to sleep when the rest of the normals do, sundown I'm awake sun up all I want to do is sleep??
Chronic fatigue and pain cause me to get so sleepy I can't hold my head up at times.
