I know my boyfriend of 4 years loves me a lot. His ex-wife had depression and fibro. I was just diagnosed in January 2015 with fibro. He's been great, understanding, helped with the kids and let me rest when I was in pain or had fatigue. I just found out last night that he doesn't understand why a person with depression just doesn't snap out of it... and the same goes with fibro. He doesn't understand why I and others with fibro just can't get ourselves out of bed when we're having one of our… read more

There is scientific proof. There are many studies that have been done to show the chemical imbalance in the brain of people with depression. There are also articles and brain scans to show the difference in the brain for folks that have fibro. Go to fmaware.org
They have many articles about fibromyalgia, chronic pain and show research results in black and white print. Maybe that will show your boyfriend what he needs.
I don't believe any one of us would ask for the pain, depression, fatigue, and many many other symptoms we have. I would give up all the symptoms in a second. I can't remember what a day without pain or fatigue feels like. It is depressing... My life has changed so much because of this crap and I'd almost do ANYTHING to not have any of this.
Look up "letter to Normals" , by Rolland J Waller, and "spoon theory" by Christine Miserandino, they're both great for explaining to someone who doesn't understand, or wants to know what it's like, these two are the perfect papers for both those with FMS and for those who have someone they love with FMS, MPS, or any other cluster of conditions...
They are great to explain in a real way from real people who suffer in a way that anyone can understand..
Wish you luck oh and look for the original postings not copies.

My rheumatologist gave me a class to go to with my mom and partner next month. It teaches you about fibromyalgia and how to deal with it. You can speak with your rheumatologist so that you and your huspabn can both go and both learn. It might help both of you and especially him . to understand it better
You both are biologically made differently. His nerves connect correctly and yours dont connect correctly and impede you. With fibro you have overactive nerves and it causes wide speed pain. I am bipolar with fibro and its hell. Your pain depresses you and its a vicious circle. When your dog ass tired and ache with pain why would you ever wanna get out of bed? But you Have to. Your new to this for that I'm sorry but with time you can conquer them. You mentally have to talk to yourself and tell yourself that you Can do It you also need to be on medication for both illnesses (it can be done to an extent) try to go on Savella its for fibro and has helped me a lot. Good luck.
