Members strongly affirmed that low or absent sex drive is very common with fibromyalgia, with many pointing to medications, especially antidepressants like Cymbalta and SSRIs or SNRIs, as frequent culprits that can reduce libido or make climax difficult. Several members shared that weaning off unnecessary medications helped restore some drive, while others noted that fatigue, muscle weakness, pain during intimacy, and menopause also play significant roles. A recurring theme was the importance of open communication with partners, managing expectations together, and recognizing that living with fibromyalgia requires understanding, patience, and self-compassion in all aspects of life, including intimacy.

Very Common! Communication is very important. My husband knows that he can't spring anything on me. I have to be somewhat awake and snuggle time first. We worked out a system. Even if you don't feel like it, once you have the understanding with your partner, it's easier to want to put their needs first. I never want to start, but end up enjoying it anyway. TMI!

That happened to me because of my medication. I'm on generic Cymbalta (90mg in the morning and 30 at night) then my primary care wrote me an Rx script for Tramadol. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I started doing some research and Cymbalta is a SNRI and Tramadol is an SSRI and I learned too much seratonin pumping through can cause little sex drive or losing the ability to climax. You might want to check your meds.

Very very common. If one medication doesn't cause it another one will. It is frustrating. Another thing to add to our stress of what this condition does to us. We are robbed of so much and when you think you have reached your point of nothing else to lose- you have a spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend that accepts all of the things that have changed. That is what some of us lucky ones have and all of us should have. We still have feelings (maybe not THOSE ones) but the ones in our hearts. We deserve love just like everyone else.

I have no sex drive either, but since I started weeding out what I felt were unnecessary meds, it is slowly coming back. There is hope.
