Members responding to a question about muscle relaxants overwhelmingly confirmed that they do help with muscle spasms and cramping, with Flexeril being the most commonly mentioned medication, though many noted it causes significant drowsiness that limits daytime use. Several members shared practical strategies, including taking muscle relaxants only at night to avoid sleeping through the day, trying different medications like Robaxin or Azor to find what works best, exploring over-the-counter options like Muscle Ezze PM, and taking them as needed rather than on a strict schedule when possible. A recurring theme was the importance of finding a doctor who trusts you and understands fibromyalgia well enough to prescribe what helps, even for long-term use, though one member cautioned that extended use of muscle relaxants may potentially cause liver damage.

I take a muscle relaxer 4 times a day and it has made a significant difference in how I feel, before I was in much more pain due to spasm in most large muscles, now, while not pain free, I feel better.

I use Flexeril 10mg at night. My prescription allows 1 tablet 3 times a day, but with my doctor's okay, I just take the other 2 as needed during the day.
