A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have just joined this group so hi everyone!

I have two questions which are puzzling me. I recently went to an agricultural show and came across a stand selling magnet bracelets, said to cure pain. Well I'll try anything and I have heard that magnets can really help, so I bought one. I have been wearing it for over 3 weeks now and I can honestly say my pain has gradually got worse! Is this possible? Or am I imagining it/or is it a coincidence?

My second question is I a, suffering from… read more

Hi and welcome. I was getting cramps at night in my feet and legs; began taking a magnesium supplement at bedtime and find that it has stopped the cramps plus an added bonus of a little better sleep. But, as always, talk with your healthcare provider about adding supplements, especially if you are taking any prescription medications. As for the magnets, they did not work for me either; I think it's an individual thing - magnets do work for some but not everybody. That's why as fibro sufferers we have to keep trying and, who knows, we may be lucky enough to find the thing that works for us. Don't give up!!

Something that I have found useful for the cramps in my feet and toes and sometimes legs is to drink at least a half quart of Gatorade or Powerade a day. It has 4 different electrolytes that your body may be losing if it's hot where you live. It is here. I drink water all day long and when I sit down at the end of the day and try to relax my toes literally curl up with cramps it's interesting to watch if it wasn't so uncomfortable the Powerade helps. I try to stick to the Zero so I don't get the calories but watch the sweetness if sucralose bothers you.

I have gotten the cramps... I started taking potassium and calcium/magnesium/zinc/vit D combo and it has helped a lot. Although please talk to your dr about this it could be RLS which is restless legs syndrome and I have that as well

I've not ever tried magnets so I can't answer that other than to say everyones body reacts differently to different things especially with fibromyalgia.....

Has far as the increased pain at night. Yes every night my pain get severely worse. I have a very hard time sleeping at night or staying still. I keep a couple pillows under my legs. One of them is a buckwheat hull pillow. It really seems help. I had bought it actually for my head pillow because I've always heard wonderful things about them and I did sleep better. I don't remember how or why I started using it as a leg pillow but it molds around my leg and it might cause a little warmth. That may be in my head but it really seems to help them. They are a little pricey....and heavy..I think that's why I don't use it on head anymore. I usually slerp on my side but can't stay on one side for long because they starts hurting and I get nasty bruises, so I toss and turn a lot. The pillow is heavy so it was hard to drag it around when I turned over. It's a king size though which works perfect for my legs and I think I'm gonna try to scrap up enough money to buy a regular size one for my head. It might be easier to drag around.....sorry didn't mean to write a book about my pillow but if can afford it at all It's worth the money.
