Members shared their experiences with memory issues and fibromyalgia, with many describing symptoms like forgetting words, struggling with directions, and needing multiple calendars and reminder systems just to manage daily tasks. Several members suspected their memory problems might be side effects of gabapentin, while others noted that symptoms worsen when tired or overstimulated, and some experience temporary worsening during fibro flares. A recurring theme was the frustration and fear of not knowing whether memory loss is permanent or medication-related, combined with practical coping strategies like sticky notes, phone alarms, written lists, and memory games to stay sharp.

I get "Fibro Fog" quite often. I forget what word I want to say or the name of a thing I'm talking about. I find myself describing the thing when I can't find the word. I have a calendar on the wall and the calendar in my phone and I use them both to remember appointments, birthday parties, or Anything else important. Sometimes I forget something my husband told me, and the next day he'll mention it and I won't remember what he said. I keep lists of chores I need to do, grocery lists, all kinds of lists. The memory issues caused me to have to stop working in a career that I was in for 30 yrs. I think this one of the worst things caused by Fibro. But I have Lupus too and it causes memory problems too. All I can suggest is to use some of the memory reminders to make life a little easier. And I do have some days that are better than others. I hope I've been some help.

It really scares me when this happens. I can see a face in my head & can't remember a name or I can't think of a word to explain something. My 86yr old mom & I play Scrabble to keep our minds alert & I think it helps to some extent except when I need those words to speak! I get stressed when I can't vocalize what I want to say. I have had migraine babble where you know what you want to say but babble comes out. I had a brain MRI & everything was ok.

My memory gets worse a little at a time. I have Lupus and Fibro together. For me, changing meds had no effect. I had a brain scan and found out I had lost some brain tissue. This is due to the Lupus. But when I do have a Fibro flair, I do find my memory temporarily gets worse. When the flair ends, the memory goes back to where it was before the flair.

Hi Rhonda! I too have trouble with meds, they all make me feel worse. I'm looking up what you posted. Thanks I like to see what others do besides meds. Prayers & hugs!
