Members shared their experiences finding fibromyalgia medications that don't cause weight gain, with several mentioning tramadol, Wellbutrin, trazodone, and muscle relaxants as options that helped manage pain or sleep without adding pounds, though individual responses varied widely. Many members expressed deep frustration over significant weight gain from various medications, with several reporting gaining 20 to 45 pounds while trying different treatments, and described the painful irony of doctors advising weight loss while prescribing medications known to cause weight gain. A recurring theme was that medication effects are highly individual, with some members experiencing weight gain even from drugs that typically cause weight loss, and the community offering solidarity around the exhausting trial-and-error process of finding effective treatments that don't create new problems.

I have not had any additional weight gain for many years, and am now trying to lose the weight that I gained many years ago. I think one reason that we gain weight is because we feel too bad and tired to move around like we could. I hope you can get the weight off. It will be difficult, but you can do it.

I was not helped by amitriptyline either. The Imipremine was amazing to me. My Dr tried to change it on me and I blew up. I only take when having muscle pain or what we call flu like or fever type body aches. Only thing that has helped this type of pain for me.

Tramadol helps but makes me very sleepy. If you are taking an anti-depressant, try Wellbutrin. Its the only one that did not add to my fatigue and did not make me gain weight. Try Trazadone for sleep, again, no weight gain. Muscle relaxants - no weight gain but be careful of side effects like blurred vision. Lorazepam can help with sleep also - lose dose to allow you to fall asleep.

I've gained 45 pounds in the last 4 years trying all kinds of meds. Now I'm left with losing those extra pounds. Very difficult. So far lost 15 LBS. it's horrible how awful we feel with all the extra weight and the doctor keeps saying lose weight but I can't take you off the 3 meds that cause weight gain.

I'm taking amitriptyline now and it says "weight gain" as one of the top 3 side effects. I'm monitoring my weight daily. If I gain more than 3 pounds, I'm stopping it. I've been on it for about 3 weeks now and it has not helped with my pain at all. I'm desperate for relief. I have an appt with a spine doctor to possibly get another epidural.
