Medical Marijuana

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Asked my doc today about using it for pain relief. Last month I stopped taking Lyrica because of swelling and weight gain. Doc said she don't think I would benefit from it. Do any of you ?

Members shared diverse experiences with medical marijuana for fibromyalgia and chronic pain management, with many reporting meaningful relief from pain, improved sleep, better mood, and the ability to reduce or eliminate other medications, though some found it ineffective or experienced unwanted side effects like increased tiredness or worsening pain. Several members emphasized the importance of choosing the right strain and form, with high-CBD oil and tinctures being particularly popular for pain relief without the intense psychoactive effects, while others noted challenges including cost, legal barriers, lack of physician support, and difficulty accessing trustworthy information. A recurring theme was frustration with traditional medications like Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Gabapentin due to severe side effects including significant weight gain, mental fog, depression, and organ damage, leading many to view medical marijuana as a safer, more natural alternative worth exploring despite the stigma and logistical hurdles.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Welcome to this site! Medical Marijuana is really a euphemism for using any form of marijuana used for medical purposes, not recreational use. The active ingredients are from a unique chemical composition called cannabinoids found in the plant., primarily THC and CBD. I just heard of a new book, called "Stoned A Doctor's Case for Medical Marijuana", by David Casarette MD which sounds great. He also talks about the latest research. Since beginning a medivrn using medical marijuana tincture, I have eliminated all pain meds(even aspirin) My blood pressure is down to normal, I have lost weight (because I move more, I guess) and I sleep better now that I have the dosage and timing adjusted. I hate medications and believe in living as natural as possible. Cannabis really fits the bill for me and the only side effects have been positive. Studies indicate that it is actually much safer than most pharmaceuticals. You can't overdose for instance. This is the most beneficial treatment I have tried since my diagnosed in 2000 and I have tried many, often with bad side effects

Yes it helps a lot and I took lyrica for 9 months and I had to keep using my dose to get relief and it caused me to have pain in my feet so bad it hurt to walk. So I went and got my medical marjuana card it helps with sleep , mood, apatite, pain I honestly can say it is a God sent because I can't take pain meds of any kind without vomiting. I seen a dr just for the medical marjuana then once I had my card I was honest with all my Drs because the more they know the benefits the less stigma it will have and I have been surprised that some Drs believe it has a place in the medical world. With the pain we all feel it's worth A try considering it has little side effects. It's main stream medicines job to push pharmaceuticals it's a big business.
