Members shared their experiences with restless leg syndrome alongside fibromyalgia, with many finding relief through a combination of medications like Ropinirole and Gabapentin, increased potassium intake from fruits and juices, magnesium supplementation, and addressing underlying sleep issues like sleep apnea through CPAP machines. Several members described practical strategies that helped reduce symptoms, including staying well-hydrated, using massagers to work out muscle knots, avoiding processed foods and sugar, and following anti-inflammatory diets rich in vegetables and lean proteins. A recurring theme was the complex and individualized nature of restless leg syndrome, with members connecting it to various factors including potassium or iron deficiencies, poor oxygen levels during sleep, yeast overgrowth, and the progression or flare-ups of fibromyalgia itself.

I believe that the restless leg problem can be caused by many different things, such as the low potaseum, lack of oxygen, iron, magnesum, and over use, oh ane lets not forget weather and vitamin D. My doctor thinks diet could be part of it. She sugests a Meterraning (spelling is all messed up this mornong sorry), she suggested I avoid red meat, eat pork, chicken, and fish, with lots of vegies. When I stick to it I feel so much better. She says that restless legs are more of a sign or partner with fibro, instead of progression of. I hope you all have a nice day.

Strawberries have more potassium than bananas do. Just a heads up because many of us are prescribed opioid medication and opioids can cause constipation and bananas don't help that symptom.

DorisNelson. It is interesting you said that restless leg is a potassium deficiency. I eat bananas every day and oranges. . I have read that restless leg is caused by an iron deficiency in the brain. Iron is needed to produce dopamine which controls movements in the body. However, potassium could be a factor. I will try and eat more fruits with potassium. Thanks for your info.

DanaBailey. I avoid processed foods also, sugar and caffeine. Tests for gluten did not find an allergy. By avoiding processed foods, sugar and taking probiotics, it helps my fibro. One nationally known doctor did a study and found that 90% of his fibro patients had a yeast problem, which is caused by preservatives in processed foods, and sugar, etc. For me, the yeast is a big factor in my fibro. When I get off my diet, my fibro gets worse.

I try to avoid all processed foods, minimal dairy, sugar is one of my weaknesses, and caffeine. They tested me for gluten allergies, so I have not tried to eliminate it. I try to eat mostly vegetables and no red meat.
Lots of salads! I would like to hear some specifics on what you eat, if you don't mind sharing?
