Members shared widely varied experiences with gabapentin for fibromyalgia, with some finding it helpful for managing pain at doses ranging from 300mg to 800mg multiple times daily, while others reported no benefit at all or troubling side effects like extreme fatigue, dizziness, disorientation, weight gain, and heart palpitations. Several members found greater success switching to Lyrica or Cymbalta, though a few noted Lyrica came with its own challenges including sugar cravings and blood sugar changes, while others experienced severe flares on alternatives and preferred staying with gabapentin despite its limitations. A recurring theme was that fibromyalgia treatment is deeply individual, with members encouraging open communication with doctors, self-advocacy, and the understanding that finding the right medication often requires trial and error since no single option completely eliminates pain for everyone.

Hi there @A MyFibroTeam Member...well as you can see from the responses everyone has a different reaction...lol! I'm in the same boat as @A MyFibroTeam Member - Gabapentin didn't don't much for me...but Lyrica has done wonders. I'm currently taking 225 mg in morning and at bedtime and my doctor and I are considering an increase (at least during the winter went things seem to get a little worse). I did have some weight gain...but I think that had more to do with giving in to cravings (mostly sugar cravings)...I found myself wanting to eat candy, cake and cookies...when in the past I hardly EVER ate that stuff (my down fall was always yeast items like bread and pretzels). Once my weight gain started to effect my blood sugar (another side effect that can happen with Lyrica) I became much more aware of my food choices again and have been successful and losing weight and getting my A1C back under control. As with ANY changes to our fibro treatment plan the BEST thing to do is research...and starting here is a great 1st step. Finding out as much as you can and then evaluating yourself and working with your doctor to determine what's best for YOU is ultimately the goal...and is ultimately YOUR decision! Hope you found some good information mixed into everyone's experiences!

Honestly I have been on Gabapentin for about 12 yrs. I think it keeps my pain stable. I have tried Savella and Lyrica too. Those two put me in such bad flares that I actually ran a high fever. If I had to choose it would be Gabapentin but nothing really completely takes away the pain. Just makes things manageable.

I take Gabapentin at the same time as Tramadol and all they do is take the edge off except on a very bad day when they seem to do nothing. Having said that i have been on them for quite a while now so maybe i need to talk to my GP about changing them.

It helps me. Every day. I take it instead of Lyrica. I agree the high doses were too much. I was groggy and dizzy etc. I am taking 300 mg in am and 300 in pm. Hope this helps you.

I take 600mg. only at bedtime. I have been on it since 2008, when I had no insurance to cover the cost of Lyrica that I had been on for 2 years. I take it for fibro and nerve pain from pressure on nerves from stenosis and disc problems.
