Last week I started taking 100mg of Tramadol three times per day. I take mirtazapine to help me sleep and for the last few nights it has not worked. Last night was the worst I was sweating and nauseous. I finally fell asleep at 5am after taking a Klonopin. Has anyone else had it cause insomnia?

Members overwhelmingly confirmed that Tramadol can cause insomnia, with many sharing that the medication kept them awake, stopped their usual sleep aids from working, or required them to avoid doses after 4 PM to prevent nighttime wakefulness. Several members described alternative sleep medications that helped them, including trazodone, hydroxyzine, and Ambien, while one nurse confirmed that insomnia is a known adverse reaction to Tramadol, particularly at higher doses. A recurring theme was the frustration of needing pain relief while simultaneously losing sleep, with some members finding relief by adjusting their dosing schedule or switching medications entirely.

Hi I am an RN and yes tramadol can cause insomnia in some patients who take it. It's called an adverse reaction. Also can cause nausea and vimiting if taken at higher doses.
