I live in the Southern California desert - about an hour away from the Mexico border - so it gets extremely HOT during the summer, getting down to a chilly 90 degrees at night and up to 120 during the day. I can only do about 10-15 minutes, but I need to stay active as much as my body allows me to. Swimming is awesome. It is even good in the winter if you can find an arthritis pool.

Water aerobics would be good. Also i have seen dvds that are just walking that could be done indoors

Try some yoga stretches. No impact. Relaxes muscle and makes you more flexible especially on bad achie days.
