You see have been on pain medicine but I have not had any issues what so ever with addiction or wanting to take more they do not get me to feeling good at all which to me is odd cause they are very popular in the recreational side of things but of course that is not what I want to achieve. After years and years though I know your body can get addicted and doctors can help with that but if you where feeling the urge to get high of your medicine there is a drug called (it starts with an N) so it… read more

When you take it the pain meds won't help anymore, but you also don't get that high feeling. Goes for alcohol too.

The body can become physically dependent on pain medication, but that does not necessarily mean that you have an addiction. Your body gets used to having the drug & you would go through withdrawals if it were suddenly stopped. Addiction is a physical AND psychological dependance on the drug. If someone is taking more & more of the substance to feel high, or using it for purposes other than it is intended, i.e. pain meds for actual pain relief. I think it's sometimes difficult to understand these differences.

My personal experience has been that hydrocodone is about the only thing that helps my fibro pain. Although, getting a doctor to prescribe for fibro may be a tall order. I have spinal disk problems & have been prescribed the pain medication for that problem. I have been taking it almost daily for 11 yrs. I recently stopped it for a short time-frame...a personal test to see if I had any problem stopping it. Thankfully, I had none. I think some ppl are genetically predisposed to have addictive traits (I could be wrong). Sorry for such a long post.
