How do I get my dr to prescribe me pain meds for the bad days? He looks at me sometimes ( I think) like I'm ok and don't need them. I am up to 600 mg of ibuprofen and that don't touch my pain on bad days.
What do you suggest I do?

Members rallied around the question of how to get doctors to take pain seriously when high doses of ibuprofen no longer provide relief, with the overwhelming consensus being to clearly communicate that current medications aren't working and to avoid asking for specific drugs by name, which can be misinterpreted as drug-seeking behavior. Several members shared that they found better pain management by seeing a rheumatologist or pain specialist rather than relying solely on a primary care doctor, with some describing treatments like gabapentin, tramadol, morphine, and medical marijuana as options that helped when traditional approaches failed. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, being firm about the reality of your pain, and not being afraid to seek a second opinion or switch providers if your current doctor dismisses your needs.

Pain center absolutely. I'm on morphine now but it's not putting much of a dent in the pain so we'll probably be bumping up again. Btw my pain dr did my first X-ray in years and found some pretty serious arthritis in my lower and upper spine and scoliosis. He's a DO so doesn't just dump everything in the fibro trashcan.

Ask your doctor if there is something else he can give you or if it would benefit you to go to a pain management doctor. FYI: It is better not to ask for specific medications because they may think you are drug seeking. Just tell them what you are on isn't working.

I didn't go to a pain management doctor for about 8 years after I was diagnosed. I was determined not to go on the heavier narcotics. But I got to the point I couldn't manage the pain anymore and it was unbearable.

Good luck

Maybe you girls need to find Pain Management Doctor. I'm going to one this Fri, and my PCP agrees. I'm taking 300 mg of Tramadol per day and not getting relief anymore. I've taken it for 25 years.

Tell him you need pain meds and tell you are using such a high dose of ibuprofen. Be firm about the fact that really are in pain!

No you don't have to smoke it. There are several different ways to use it. One way is patches I have heard. It is illegal where I live
