Members shared widely varied experiences with gabapentin for managing fibromyalgia and nerve pain, with many finding significant relief at doses ranging from 100 mg to 1800 mg daily, while others experienced challenging side effects or no benefit at all. Several members described helpful outcomes including reduced joint and nerve pain, better sleep, weight loss, and improved function, though common side effects mentioned were drowsiness, brain fog, nausea, swelling, weight gain, and coordination issues that sometimes required stopping the medication. A recurring theme was the importance of starting with low doses and increasing slowly, recognizing that everyone reacts differently to medications, and working closely with doctors to find the right balance between pain relief and manageable side effects.

@A MyFibroTeam Member. Not with the Gabapentin but I have the opposite reaction to Benedryl. Supposed to help you sleep but it totally winds me up!! I've been on a lot of fibro groups over the years and odd reaction to meds that others can take is not all that unusual. I think we have more sensitivities to meds, foods, as well as light, noise, touch. Grrrrrr! Fibro sucks!

I also have a long list of reactions to medications, it might be part of the Fibro, never thought about that. Noise and light affect me too.

3rd day on 100 mg. and so far, so good. I am a little tired in the morning, but my pain levels have gone down dramatically. I have made it to noon with no advil, and I usually take 3 pills 3x a day.

I use the Gabapentin. It works best for my leg pain but for the overall body pain I think the Lyrica did a better job. Sadly I had problems taking the Lyrica and it is quite expensive. The best med, for me, has been Savella which has improved the fibro fog, improved the fatigue, and helped me maintain a lover pain level.

i am currently on gabapentin for the last month after being on lyrica for the past year. i had more pain with the lyrica and found out this was a side effect of the lyrica and was switched over to gabapentin. i take 3 capsules a day and am better able to function on the gabapentin and also have lost some weight as well. remember everyone reacts differently to different medications but for me this has been the best i have felt in a long time.
