I can be driving standing sitting or what ever and literally doze off. Does anyone know if this is part of the fibro or do I need to look into something else? The medicine is no different on these days, the night sleep isn't different. Just can't stay awake. Other days sleeping doesn't enter my mind. I rarely sleep more that four to five hours a night any night and that is with a muscle relaxer and pain meds. I just can't handle those day time hours when I find my self sleeping at the… read more

Members overwhelmingly validated the experience of sudden, uncontrollable sleepiness, with many describing falling asleep while standing, driving, teaching, or even using the bathroom, often attributing it to fibromyalgia's disruption of stage 4 deep sleep that leaves the body periodically shutting down from exhaustion. Several members shared practical insights, including getting tested for sleep apnea, narcolepsy, or chronic fatigue syndrome, reviewing medications like Gabapentin that can cause extreme drowsiness, trying Savella or medical marijuana to manage sleep cycles, and tracking symptoms against hormonal cycles or iron levels. A recurring theme was the fear and frustration of these episodes, but also the reassurance that this pattern is a common part of living with fibro, with members encouraging rest without guilt and open conversations with doctors to rule out other causes.

I do the same thing. I believe its where our sleep is never restful that every so many days our bodies have had enough and we sleep and sleep. I've been dealing with this for fifteen years and it always happens so its just fibro doing what fibro does. Gentle hugs to u all.

I, too, suffer from what I call "coma naps" that come on episodically. I will be standing in front of the class teaching and nearly hallucinating from fatigue and the urge to sleep! It is horrible! The only thing that relieves it is sleep, but I cannot nap with a room full of ten year olds. Even driving home from work, I fight to stay awake. Most often these attacks begin in the afternoon, but sometimes they last all day. I found Excedrin Migraine can ward it off for a few hours until I can nap. I was tested for sleep apnea and that was ruled out. I do have RLS and a "weak breathing pattern," and I take Requip for that. However, these events can occur after what seems to have been a restful night. So weird.
